You CAN Do Something About Kidney Disease

Ketogenic diets were used over a hundred years ago to treat epilepsy and diabetes. Fast forward to today, and now we know that well-formulated ketogenic nutrition therapy (i.e. the right kind of keto diet) can also support kidney health.

Research has shown that it can

  • reduce kidney stress and inflammation

  • improve eGFR and blood urea nitrogen levels (BUN)

  • improve blood pressure

  • improve overall metabolic function

  • support weight management

Client Success

"I’d spent years bouncing between diets, always second-guessing what was “healthy” for me, especially after I developed prediabetes and later early-stage kidney issues. What I found here wasn’t another rigid plan, but clarity. Yvonne helped me cut through the noise and focus on what truly supports my kidneys and blood sugar without making life harder. The changes felt surprisingly manageable, and the results followed: more energy, better labs, and less stress around food. It’s been a total shift in how I care for myself."

"Living with bipolar means my energy and motivation can change a lot, and trying to manage my kidney health on top of that felt way too overwhelming. But Erin truly understood. She met me where I was, never pushed too hard, and helped me build routines that flex with how I’m feeling. After three months, I’m eating better, sleeping more consistently, I've got more energy, and for the first time in years, I feel like my brain isn't fighting me. I can finally make changes and make them stick."

CKD & Mental Health Challenges

"Working with Ueli was a game-changer. I’d been stuck in the same cycle for years, with kidney issues and too much weight. Ueli’s no-fuss, pragmatic approach helped me drop 20 kg without obsessing over food or dragging myself to the gym every day. He kept things simple, gave me tools that actually fit my life, and kept the momentum going with his energy and straight-up enthusiasm. It wasn’t just about hitting a goal. It was about changing how I live. I’m feeling stronger, lighter, and more in control than I have in a long time."

Does science support keto for kidneys?

Let the trials begin! Actually, they already have. Here are just four interesting scientific publications by leading researchers showing

  • promise in the use of ketogenic diets for kidney disease

  • support for getting adequate protein for people with CKD

Keto for Kidneys

Too many carbs, insulin resistance, and other environmental factors can make kidney disease worse, while a well-formulated ketogenic diet may help slow its progression.

Keto for Kidneys

In this study, keto lead to reduced body fat, improved liver health, and better kidney function.

At the same time, participants in the control and water fasting groups experienced typical disease progression.

Protein for CKD

Here, older adults with CKD who ate more protein (both animal and plant-based) had a lower risk of death, suggesting that the benefits of protein may be more important than the potential risks.

Protein for CKD

"All a low protein diet does is to shrink the patient down to the size of his kidneys."

Extreme protein restriction should only be advised when strong evidence supports it. Current evidence is not strong enough.
